Kerala
The jubilation among high school teachers in the district in the wake of its achievement in the SSLC examinations is proof of their efforts. The district's pass percentage of 90.75, highest in the State, is no small achievement and the credit for this goes to the teachers as also the district panchayat which initiated special coaching plans to address the SSLC students' difficulty in learning English and mathematics. The results proved to be a major morale booster for the teachers. The district panchayat's `Mukulam' scheme launched last year targeted SSLC students who were ill at ease with English and mathematics. The programme of the Kerala School Teachers' Association (KSTA) to equip the students to handle difficult subjects also contributed to the good performance. A positive aspect of putting up such a good show - there was hardly any case of post-result suicide by students. Teachers certainly celebrate this as a major achievement and a sign of positive trends emerging in the education sector.
