BANGALORE: The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is going hi-tech and transparent in its recruitment and ticketing system and has opted, for the first time, for an e- recruitment system for filling 5,313 vacancies. The KSRTC has, on a pilot basis, decided to issue Radio Frequency Identity Cards (RFID) in Mysore city and Chikmagalur for students at concessionary rates. Around 3,000 cards will be issued soon. Minister for Transport N. Cheluvarayaswamy told presspersons here on Tuesday that the identity cards would be valid for a year. The KSRTC will shortly notify the recruitment of 5,313 officers, supervisors, assistant storekeepers, mechanics, drivers and driver-cum-conductors. As part of the exercise, 79 officer posts will be filled. Candidates will be selected based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination and the KSRTC Common Aptitude Test. The Minister said the corporation would fill 328 vacancies of supervisor. The selection method was based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination and the marks scored in the CAT. Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said the 24 vacant posts of assistant storekeeper would also be filled based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination. Further, 882 other posts of helper B category (594 posts), artisan (94), assistant artisan (106), and assistant transport inspector (88) would be filled based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination and interview. He said 2,000 posts each of driver and driver-cum-conductor would also be filled. The drivers would be selected based on the trade test conducted by KSRTC, while driver-cum-conductors would be selected based on the marks obtained in SSLC examination (50 per cent of the marks) and marks obtained in the trade test.
16 depots planned
Mr. Cheluvarayaswamy said funds had been earmarked to construct 16 new KSRTC depots and 25 bus stations in the current financial year. The KSRTC had also prepared a proposal to establish a driving training school on a 15-acre plot between Bangalore and Hassan. The land was yet to be identified.
