Sensex recovers initial losses
MUMBAI:
The Sensex ended 35 points up in scrip-specific activity to extend gains for the fifth straight session on Tuesday. The market recovered initial losses as Reliance Industries were in the limelight in late trading, touching a high of Rs. 1,775.25 on the back of fresh purchases by foreign institutional investors and domestic funds.
After a promising start, the Sensex later dipped to a low of 14348.26 before ending at 14453.72, a net gain of 35.12 points against Monday's close of 14418.60. The BSE barometer has gained more than 524 points or 3.63 per cent in five sessions from May 16.
The S&P CNX Nifty has risen by 17.20 points to a new closing peak of 4278.10 from 4260.90.
A smart rally in Reliance Industries after midsession led to a positive turnaround in market sentiment, brokers said. _ PTI
