Staff Reporter
PUDUCHERRY: Within a month's time, the residents of the Union Territory will be able to gather information about the ownership, extent and type of land by the click of a mouse. The Revenue Department has put on stream an online site http://demo.pon.nic.in/nilamagal for providing information about land records. The site at present provides information about land records of 39 villages pertaining to Villianur Taluk. People can get information of both cultivable and residential land by either entering the patta number or survey number of a particular land. "We launched the site on a trial basis a few days ago. Within a month, ownership, the extent and nature of land in a particular survey number of all six taluks and two sub-divisions will be available on the site," Puducherry Collector G. Theva Neethi Dhas told The Hindu . The initiative was part of Government's `Nilamgal Project', the computerisation of land records. The site would be updated to provide encumbrance details and online transfer of patta. The Department also launched a website www.pon.nic.in or http://registration.pon.nic.in/glr last month to help people calculate the stamp and transfer duty to be paid to the Government.
