CHENNAI: The St. Joseph's senior National ball badminton championships, sponsored by St. Joseph's College of Engineering, will be held at the St. Joseph's Sports Complex here from May 24 to 28. The championship returns to the State after a gap of seven years. The last edition was held at Coimbatore in 2001. Detailing the features of the championships for men and women, Babu Manoharan, Director, St. Joseph's College of Engineering, told the media on Monday that 24 men's and 18 women's teams would figure in the competitions. To be played in the league-cum-knock out format, the teams will be divided into four groups and the top two in each group will qualify for the quarterfinal. Thereafter, it will be a knock-out competition. Prof. Ranga Rao, President, Ball Badminton Federation of India, and V. Ezhilarsan, Secretary, TNBBA, were also present.
The Tamil Nadu teams: Men: D. Marimuthu (captain), D. Rajaperumal, Viswanathan, Ajay Karthik (all from Chennai), Marshall, Subramani, Sivasubramaniam (Coimbatore), V. Aravind, G. Raja Mahender (Tiruvallur), J. Vijay (Dindugul). Women: Kanimozhi (captain), A. Suganya, S. Subhashini (Salem), J. Suganya, Arthi, Rani (Coimbatore), Srividya, Revathi, S. Disha, Christy Catherine (Tiruvallur).
