BANGALORE: Alleging anomalies in the second year pre-university valuation, about 800 students and parents thronged the PU Department here on Tuesday. With the Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell prepared to announce the results on May 25, the agitated candidates wanted that it be withheld and declared only after their revalution results were out. It was a spontaneous reaction from the students and parents, worried that the low II PUC marks would severely affect their CET ranks. CET engineering ranks are determined on the basis of II PUC Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics marks and the CET scores of the three subjects. Their bigger complaint was about the low marks scored in the II PUC examinations. Many students, who had consistent 80 to 90 per cent scores in their previous examination were shocked to see the poor results. The scores in the crucial Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics papers were particularly low. Dejected and angry, the students queued up before the PU Department from Monday to apply for photocopies of answer scripts and revaluation. When contacted, the PU Department Commissioner S.G. Hegde told The Hindu that the CET results would be announced as per schedule on May 25. If students got better II PUC marks after revaluation, they would get fresh CET ranks. "The CET counselling process for general candidates will begin only on June 5. We will certainly consider their marks and issue fresh ranks," he promised. Mr. Hegde said the department had received only about 2,200 applications for revaluation, which was lower than last year. On Tuesday afternoon, students and parents regrouped to intensify their protest as the AIDSO intervened, demanding an impartial inquiry into the whole affair. A delegation of the students and parentslater met Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy, who reportedly assured them that he would immediately call a meeting of the concerned authorities and consider the demands.
