TUMKUR: Congress Working Committee member and former Minister G. Parameshwar has come out with a suggestion to solve the problem affecting Tumkur University. Talking to presspersons here on Tuesday, Dr. Parameshwar said, "The foremost thing is that there should be no politics. I do not claim credit for setting up the university, as it was a collective effort. Leaders of all political parties from the district helped in the task. A similar effort is now needed to strengthen the varsity." Dr. Parameshwar regretted that agitations were being staged almost every day demanding that the Government give due attention towards developing the university. He said, "It is true that the varsity has been given sufficient funds. Land for the campus is yet to be finalised. Fresh courses have not been started at the graduate and postgraduate levels. The research wing is yet to be set up." Dr. Parameshwar, who was instrumental in building the Dr. Ambedkar Bhavan on Mahatma Gandhi Road here, said, "It is three years since Tumkur University offices were located at the bhavan as a temporary measure. Various organisations were now opposing the continuation of the offices there." "I suggest the use of the Government Science and Arts College on BH National Highway for the varsity work."The university could use the college's vast area for its work. Dr. Parameshwar said, "A part of the Hebbaka tank bed in Tumkur can be developed into a balancing reservoir to store Hemavathy waters for supply of drinking water throughout the year to Tumkur city and about 200 acres can be granted for the university campus."
