NEW DELHI: Parimarjan Negi missed a golden opportunity to nail fellow Grandmaster Azerbaijan's Rauf Mamedov before settling for a frustrating draw in the sixth round of the World Youth Stars chess tournament in Kirishi, Russia, on Monday. Looking well on way to a victory after holding a four-pawn advantage at one stage, Negi faltered in time pressure and allowed Memedov to escape with a draw in 59 moves. The result kept Parimarjan in joint lead with top-seeded Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi, who defeated overnight joint leader Armenia's Zaven Andriasian to reach 4.5 points.
The results: Sixth round: Parimarjan Negi (4.5) drew with Rauf Memedov (Aze, 3.5); Zaven Andriasian (Arm, 4) lost to Ian Nepomniachtchi (Rus, 4.5); Eltaj Safarli (Aze, 2) lost to Yuriy Kuzubov (Ukr, 3.5); Ivan Popov (Rus, 2.5) bt Daniil Lintchevski (Rus, 2); Avetik Grigoryan (Arm, 4) bt Sergei Zhigalko (Blr, 2); Falko Bindrich (Ger, 1) lost to Eduard Gorovykh (Rus, 2.5).
