Party speakers lash out at the Union and State governments

BURNING PROBLEMS: Members of the Samajwadi Party burning the effigies of the Union and the State governments in Shimoga on Tuesday to protest against their `failures on all fronts'.

SHIMOGA: Members of the Samajwadi Party held a demonstration here on Tuesday to protest against the "failure" of the Centre and the State Government in solving the problems of the common people.

The members sporting red caps took out a procession from the Ramanna Shresthi Park to the Gopi Circle after passing through the Gandhi Bazar, Ameer Ahmed Circle and the Nehru Road.

They burnt the effigies of the Centre and the State Government as a mark of protest against their "failure" to meet the basic needs of the common people.

The agitation was followed by an impromptu public meeting in which the speakers lashed out at the Centre and the coalition Government in the State.

The speakers said the below poverty line ration cards had not been given to all eligible families and added that neither sites or houses were allotted to the beneficiaries under the Ashraya Housing Scheme.

The demonstration was led by the Samajawadi Party district unit president M. Nagendra Rao, party's district women's wing president Shamshad Begum and the district general secretary N. Honnappa.
