Mahavir International launches a novel programme to help the poor

VISAKHAPATNAM: Mahavir International in the city has launched a novel programme of collecting old newspapers and old toys from households and utilise the proceeds to help the poor.

According to secretary of the organisation H.M. Choksi, the income from the newspapers would be utilised to provide uniforms and scholarships for the poor and bright students and the used toys would be distributed among the poor children. "We have already begun collection and the residents of Shri Shambhav Towers opposite Super Bazaar and Roshan Towers and Sea Shells apartments have responded to our appeal by donating newspapers and toys. One of our members Ajit Bothra has provided a van for collecting the old goods. We will arrange to send the vehicle once in a month to collect the old papers and toys," he said.

Mahavir International had also launched a permanent project of medical services at charitable clinic in Jain Dadabadi temple near Collectorate. The clinic was open every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and there were plans to operate it twice a week shortly. A corpus fund had already been raised to run the clinic continuously, he said.
