Gowda leads dharna in Goa

Special Correspondent

PANAJI: As announced by him earlier, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (S) president H.D. Deve Gowda, accompnied by a few party office-bearers and workers, staged a token dharna at Gandhi Chowk in Old Goa on Tuesday morning protesting police high-handedness and victimisation of his party office bearers in the on-going election process.

Mr. Gowda described the action by the Vasco police against his party's office bearers as `harassment.' Wondering what was wrong in the whole episode in which the police seized Rs. 9 lakh from his party office-bearers on Sunday night at a hotel in south Goa, Mr. Gowda saw a clear bias on the part of some officials and warned that he would take up the issue with the Election Commission.
