`Work on court complex progressing slowly'

Special Correspondent

Team find that work on court complex in Dharwad is progressing well

GULBARGA: Former chairman and member of the Karnataka State Bar Council S.S. Khumman on Monday said the construction of the new court complex on the outskirts of Gulbarga to house the proposed Circuit Bench of the High Court was progressing very slowly when compared to the court complex coming up on the outskirts of Dharwad.

In a statement issued here, Mr. Khumman said a team of advocates from Gulbarga had visited Dharwad and inspected work on the court complex there and work on the one in Gulbarga.

Mr. Khumman said the quarters for judges in Dharwad was ready and the staff quarters and four-storeyed guesthouse, club and roads were nearing completion. The construction of the main court building was also in almost complete.

However, in Gulbarga only 10 to 15 per cent of the construction work had been completed.

Reasons

The reason provided for the slow progress of work was lack of water from the borewell, shortage of labourers and poor power supply.

Mr. Khumman said if the present pace of the work continued in Gulbarga it would be impossible for the authorities to complete the construction before the deadline. He demanded that the Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna and district in-charge Minister Sharanabasappa Dharshanapur intervene and supervise the progress of the work in the new court complex.

The team of advocates who visited Dharwad and inspected the work in Gulbarga included, Mr. Khumman, M. Nagappa, Ustad Sadat Hussain, Baburao Mangane, K.A. Kalburgi, president of the Gulbarga Bar Association; R.V. Nadagouda, G.K. Mahagoankar, Prabhakar Algudkar and B.S. Jeergi.
