CPI(M) supporters `occupy' land

Special Correspondent

It has already been surrendered, says Tahsildar

KURNOOL: Communist Party of Indian (Marxist) supporters led by district secretary T. Shadrak attempted occupation of land classified as "assigned land" at Gopavaram in Mahanandi mandal of Kurnool district on Tuesday.

CPI(M) leaders said the land measuring 107 acres was purchased by Member of Parliament S.P.Y. Reddy and his family members.

Procession taken out

The supporters of the CPI(M) took out a procession to the land and planted party flags. Mandal Tahsildar Lakshmaiah said that the land had already been surrendered to the Government by the MP and his family members. According to him, the land would be redistributed among eligible persons within a month.

The Tahsildar asked the activists to vacate the premises until its redistribution.

But the CPI(M) leaders refused to vacate. In case of any mischief, the occupants would cultivate the land, they said.
