Jana says `no' to suspension of policemen

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Home Minister K. Jana Reddy has ruled out the possibility of a "straightaway suspension" of policemen involved in the firing in the old city following the bomb blast in Mecca Masjid on Friday.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, the Minister said: "There will be such demand after police firing, especially when people are killed. But we have to delve into the truth and verify whether the firing was excess."

Referring to the demand by the United Muslim Action Committee for the suspension of four police officers, Mr. Reddy said: "We have to see the totality of the situation before taking any decision for suspending them."
