HYDERABAD: The Tirumala-Tirupati Devasthanams will soon launch a television channel named "Sri Venkateswara Channel" to highlight the various religious programmes connected with the Lord and promote "bhakti" and "dharma" among people. A company, Sri Venkateswara Bhakti Company, will be launched shortly and registered with an investment of Rs 2.5 crores with Tirupati as its headquarters for the purpose. The proposal has been cleared by Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy. The content and time duration of the programmes to be televised and the languages to be used will be decided once the company is formed, said TTD Executive Officer K. V. Ramanachary. To start with, the TTD would invest a sum of Rs. 6 crores in the project, but this would finally be raised to Rs 20 crore. "Viewers in the United States and other countries will also be kept in mind while preparing the programmes". Mr Ramanachary told reporters here on Tuesday that Balaji Navodaya schools would be set up by the TTD in each district, to offer values-based education to children who were now tending to be western-oriented. Only economic status of the child would be considered for admission into these schools. He said a decision had also been taken to allow darshan to mothers with babies in arms through Mahadwara, a facility now open only to the disabled and the aged. However, the facility would be denied if these women insisted on that husbands and other family members accompany them. Asked about the progress of his inquiry into the special darshan allowed to film star Amitabh Bachchan, the newly-weds Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwaya Rai and other family members recently, he said he would submit his report shortly.
