New plants planned for waste disposal

Special Correspondent

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government plans to establish compost plants in the areas covered by 17 urban local bodies across the State for an efficient disposal of solid waste and saving energy, besides manufacturing biofertilisers for farmers.

Minister of State for Urban Development Pratap Singh Singhvi said here on Tuesday that the process for installing the plant would begin next month, while an assessment of the capacity, structure, disposal method and procedure for compost manufacturing had already been made taking into account the urban waste likely to be generated in the next 10 years.

Mr. Singhvi said the plants would be established by utilising the funds allocated after the recommendations made by the 12th Finance Commission. The urban bodies will also lay emphasis on strengthening beat system of cleaning staff and sending tractors with container lifting device as part of the solid waste management.

The Minister said the arrangements for water, electricity, fencing and approach road to the plants would be made by the urban bodies concerned and five of the plants would start manufacturing biofertilisers by August 15 this year.
