ADILABAD: Agriculture Minister N. Raghuveera Reddy on Tuesday warned suppliers of spurious seeds in Adilabad district. He said licences of dealers who supply spurious seeds as well as licences of those who black market Bt cotton seeds will be suspended if they are found indulging in illegal activities. Addressing a Rythu Chaitanya Yatra meeting at Medipalli village about 10 kms from Nirmal, the Minister said the Congress Government had stood by its promise of benefiting the farmers. Citing examples to buttress his contention, he said 100 per cent subsidy was accorded in supply of drip irrigation systems to farmers who held five acres and below. The allocation for dairy had increased from Rs. 107 crore to Rs. 700 crore. Of this Rs. 250 crore had been spent for purchase of milch animals at 25 per cent subsidy. Mr. Raghuveera Reddy also criticised the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for shedding crocodile tears for farmers. He said unlike the two parties the Congress Government had gone to grass roots with welfare programmes. Labour Minister G. Vinod said the Government was doing all within its power to get the order on printing of skull and bones symbol on beedi wrappers scrapped. Nirmal legislator A. Indrakaran Reddy, Collector R. Subba Rao and in charge chairman of ADCC bank M. Damodar Reddy also participated.
