WIND EFFECT: Open beal storks at Nandankanan Zoological Garden find it difficult to settle down in gusty wind.
BHUBANESWAR: As the capital city experienced the season's highest temperature of 40.5 degree Celsius on Tuesday, rain followed suit without delay. The weather condition changed quickly as rain, accompanied by heavy winds and hailstorm, hit the city in the afternoon drastically bringing down the temperature. Hundreds of trees were uprooted as rain continued to lash the city for more than an hour starting at 1.30 p.m. People were seen running for cover as it started raining all of a sudden. Heavy winds that accompanied the rain caused snapping of electric wires at several points affecting electricity supply in vast areas of the city. Even the State Secretariat and many major government buildings housing different Departments had to manage without electricity for over two hours. In other parts of the city, electricity supply was restored by late in the evening. The city had experienced maximum day temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius on Monday, but no rain throughout the day had made life miserable for the people.
