MYSORE: High drama prevailed at Maharani's Pre-University College, where students, who had appeared for the music and dance examinations conducted by the Karnataka Secondary Education Board, their parents and teachers protested against the alleged disorder and highhandedness of the examiners, here on Tuesday. A few students alleged that the examiners harassed them without any reason. One such student said that she went to the examination centre at the specified time, but there were no examiners. By the time the examiners arrived, her accompanying artistes had left. But the examiners admonished her and allegedly took a written statement from her, she said. On learning about the incident, parents and teachers of various students assembled near the examination venue and protested against the behaviour of the examiners. The Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) intervened and assured the parents and the students of initiating action against erring examiners. According to music and dance teachers, this was not the first time students were facing such problems. A teacher said that there would be confusion over who would conduct the examination and the date of the examination as the students would receive hall tickets in the last moment. The practical examinations in vocal, flute and mridanga were being held in more than 20 classrooms of the college, which were in unsanitary condition. Students who had to write theory examination had to face more problems, as there would no proper arrangements. Despite bringing this to the notice of the authorities concerned no attention had been given, a student told The Hindu . According to sources, over 520 students have taken examinations in music and dance this year. A musician said that it was time the authorities corrected their mistakes, otherwise it would have a bad impact on the students.
