MYSORE: With the State Government issuing a separate guideline to the Mysore Zilla Panchayat for the transfer of teachers in Mysore district, the Cadre Management Committee, headed by Chief Executive Officer of the panchayat Channappa Gowda, conducted teachers' transfer counselling on Tuesday.

The three-member committee, which also comprises Deputy Secretary of the panchayat Kempe Gowda and Deputy Director of Public Instruction Kemparaje Gowda as member and member secretary respectively, had received over 100 applications from high school teachers and 899 applications from primary school teachers seeking transfer. More than 1,000 teachers from the district thronged the panchayat premises here for the counselling. The requests for transfers was considered only if teachers had a minimum of five years' service and if there were vacancies in the schools where transfers had been sought.

"The list of vacancies in the schools of seven taluks has been displayed. Transfers will be considered depending on the vacancies. The teachers can remain in the same schools if they do not get a place of their choice," Mr. Kempe Gowda told The Hindu . "If there are vacancies, priority will be given to teachers who are physically challenged, suffering from some serious illness, and women. On-the-spot transfer orders have been issued to many teachers," he said.

The Deputy Secretary said only schools in H.D. Kote, Periyapatna and Hunsur had vacancies and there was not even a single vacancy in the South and North zones of Mysore city. Since the schools are set to reopen, the counselling was completed on Tuesday.

Walk out

Meanwhile, the teachers' counselling witnessed some dramatic moments when the panchayat president Rajamma walked out of the venue accusing the officials of keeping her in the dark about the counselling.

She reportedly asked the officials to withhold the counselling. In spite of the officials explaining to her that the counselling had been conducted according to the instructions from the Government, she refused to believe and warned of writing to the Government to annul the proceedings.
