    MANGALORE: Resource persons who spoke at The Hindu EducationPlus pre-counselling session here on Tuesday advised students to choose courses according to their interests and not to yield to pressure from parents, friends, neighbours and relatives.

    The session was organised for PU students appeared for the Common Entrance Test (CET) and the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) test.

    The resource persons included researcher G.N. Menon; former president of Indian Dental Association U.S. Krishna Nayak; head of the Department of Microbiology, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, Krishnaprasad M.S.; and head of the Department of Training and Placement of the National Institute of Technology - Karnataka, Surathkal, K.N. Lokesh.

    Mr. Lokesh said students should study the history of educational institutions and their standards before deciding to join a college.

    The top ten scorers in the mock CET organised by The Hindu EducationPlus at Canara Pre-University College here on May 3 were given cash prizes.

    They are (in order of rank) P.S. Sujith, H.P. Pallavi Mayya, and Tejaswi Rao of Canara Pre-University College, Mangalore; N. Guru Prasad, Sathya Sai Loka Seva Pre-University College, Alike; Pooja Bhat, S. Anusha, Nivedh Shetty, and M. Vinod Kumar of Canara Pre-University College; P. Greeshma, St. Aloysius Pre-University College, Mangalore; and M.B. Harshith, Vivekananda Pre-University College, Puttur.

    New Mangalore Port Trust; State Bank of Mysore; Garden City College, Bangalore; Manipal Education; The Oxford Educational Institutions, Bangalore; Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd.; and Bharat Petroleum sponsored the session.
