BANGALORE: A minor girl was sexually abused and murdered in Doddaballapur taluk of Bangalore Rural district.

The police said the body of Anitha (13), who was reported missing from Friday, was found in a gunny bag in a garbage bin near her house in Kadanurupalya village on Monday evening.

Anitha had suffered several stab wounds. The police suspect that some one known to Anitha could have sexually abused her and later murdered her to prevent her from identifying them. Anitha, a Class VII student, was the daughter of farmer Muniraju. The Doddabelavengala police have registered a case.

Dowry deaths

Following alleged harassment for more dowry, two women committed suicide in separate incidents in the city on Monday night.

The police said Sathyavathi (35) ended her life by hanging herself at her house on 6th Cross, 7th Main, Srinagar. She had married Ramesh, an electrical contractor, in 1999.

As she was allegedly tortured for more dowry by her husband and in-laws, Sathyavathi had attempted suicide by setting herself ablaze sometime ago, the police said.

On complaint by Satyavathi's brother, the Hanumanthanagar police have registered a case and are on the lookout for Ramesh.

In the other incident, Pavithra (23) committed suicide by hanging herself at her house at Basapura in Electronics City police station limits. Pavithra of Kanakapura in Bangalore Rural district had married Choodamani of Tamil Nadu a year ago. Her husband was allegedly torturing her for dowry.

Suicide

A debt-ridden autorickshaw driver committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) quarters in Old Madivala on Monday night.

The police gave his name as Harish (22), son of KSRP head constable Puttarevanna. The Madivala police have registered a case.

Burgled

Burglars struck at a house in Chickpet police station limits on Monday and made away with Rs. 25,000 and gold ornaments worth Rs. 1.5 lakh. The police said the theft took place at the fourth floor house of Gowramma on R.T. Street on Monday afternoon.
