64.26 per cent pass in higher secondary exams

Twenty-nine schools register 100 per cent pass


THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 2,13,786 of the 3,32,689 candidates who appeared for the higher secondary (Plus Two) examinations in the new scheme and 39,540 of the 61,589 in the old scheme have qualified for higher studies. The pass percentage in the new scheme is 64.26 and old scheme 64.2.

Releasing the results here on Tuesday morning, Education Minister M.A. Baby said the pass percentage in the science group was 68.99, humanities 63.97, commerce 59.06, technical 65.72 and arts 91.1 per cent. The pass percentage in the school-going category was 72.6, open school and regular 39.56 and open school and private 44.14.

In the old scheme, 1,037 candidates appeared for the full course and 60,552 in the compartmental system.

Twenty-nine schools registered 100 per cent pass. Grace marks were given to winners of prizes in sports and youth festivals and National Cadet Corps. The results of 173 candidates were withheld on the charge of malpractice.

Withheld results

The results of 548 candidates who had committed lapses, such as writing the wrong register numbers on the answer sheets, would be released after correcting the mistakes.

Those who had secured admission in 2005 appeared in the new scheme, in which grading was introduced, and those who had joined earlier in the old scheme.

This was the first examination after grading was introduced at the Plus Two level. The total marks of a candidate comprise the scores of continuous evaluation and practical and written examinations.

There were 1,631 examination centres: 1,608 in Kerala, 11 in the Gulf countries, four in Mahe and eight in Lakshadweep.

Applications for photocopies of the answer sheets should be submitted to the Secretary, Examinations, Higher Secondary, before June 4 with a fee of Rs.300 a paper. The applications for scrutiny and revaluation should be submitted before June 4. The fee for scrutiny is Rs.75 a paper and revaluation Rs.400.

Improvement

Students in the new scheme who have secured D+ grade and above can appear for improving the grade for one subject.

The improvement fee is Rs.400. If a student has got a grade below D+ for one subject and D+ for the remaining five subjects, he or she can appear for the Save-A-Year (SAY) examination.

The examination fee for subjects with practical examination is Rs.125 and others Rs.100. Students who had appeared in the old scheme can also appear for improvement and SAY examinations.

The fee for improvement examination is Rs.400. The fee for subjects with practical tests in SAY examination is Rs.125 and others Rs.100. The last date for applying for SAY and improvement examinations is June 4.

Students need not have to wait for the score sheet. They can produce copies of the online score sheet to submit applications.
