THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Government would soon frame rules to notify tourist zones in the State as envisaged in the law enacted for the purpose by the last Government, Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said here on Tuesday. Participating in a `Meet-the-Press' programme, the Tourism Minister said the department had been asked to frame the rules. The Government would also give shape to an eco-friendly master plan for tourism development in Munnar. The focus in Munnar would be on big-time encroachers. All the encroached Government land would be resumed and used for planned development in the Government was working on restructuring the Tourism Resorts Kerala Limited and make it an infrastructure development company. There was a proposal to convert all units of the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC) into profit centres. The Chief Minister would lay the foundation stone for the Kerala House in Chennai on June 5. The KTDC would add 20 rooms to its Tea County property and construct a convention centre that can accommodate 400 persons. The corporation also planned to build budget hotels in the land that was being resumed from encroachers.
