Four young men arrested

NEW DELHI: Four young men allegedly planning to commit a robbery have been arrested at Kalkaji here. The police claim to have recovered a country-made firearm from one of them.

The accused, Manish, Ganga Singh, Subhash and Nandu, had gathered near Hansraj Sethi Park when the police mounted a raid and arrested them. During interrogation, the accused disclosed that they were planning to target a gas agency. They used to commit robberies, burglaries and pick pocketing. Ganga and Subhash have earlier been arrested under the Arms Act.

Auditor held by

CBI for graft

NEW DELHI: An auditor with the Defence Pension and Disbursing Office inside the Red Fort premises was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs.25,000 from the 73-year-old widow of an Army man to release the pension arrears.

The CBI recently received a complaint from Mahesh Chand, the grandson of Malwati alleging that Kishore Kumar, an auditor with the Defence Pension and Disbursing Office, was demanding bribe for releasing pension arrears of Rs. 2.54 lakh to his mother.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI sleuths laid a trap and arrested Kishore on Tuesday when he was allegedly receiving the bribe amount.

Court asks DTC to reinstate conductor

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday slapped a fine of Rs.5,000 on Delhi Transport Corporation(DTC) for illegally sacking a bus conductor and asked it to reinstate him within a month.

Directing the corporation to reinstate him in a month time, Justice Hema Kohli directed the corporation to release all back wages of Ram Bhaj with effect from the date of his termination.

Drug Inspector's

plea rejected

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday rejected the plea of a Drug Inspector for quashing of criminal proceedings against him in a corruption case.

Justice S Ravinder Bhat dismissed a petition filed by Ashutosh Sharma, a Drug Inspector, challenging the trial court order charging him with taking a bribe of Rs.5,000 from the chemist shop owner to overlook deficiencies while inspecting the shop, two years ago.

Seminar on growing threat of terrorism

NEW DELHI: The Jama Masjid United Forum is conducting a seminar on the growing threat of terrorism to the country at India Islamic Cultural Centre here this coming Saturday. Besides senior political leaders, the seminar will also be attended by well-known personalities from the film world like Javed Akhtar and Mahesh Bhatt.

Load shedding

New Delhi: A few hours of load shedding due to technical problems marred an otherwise normal power situation in the Capital on Tuesday.

The peak load on the system was recorded at 3,509 MW, an official spokesperson said.
