Delhi BJP criticises UPA Government

Staff Reporter

`It has shown no perspective for development of the Capital'

NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has charged that the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre has in its three years of rule shown no perspective for development of the Capital and instead only taken measures that have led to price rise, sealing and demolitions resulting in lakhs of people being rendered homeless and unemployed.

Stating that had the UPA Government been a little sensitive and serious about Delhi, then it would have given it the status of a full-fledged State, Dr Vardhan said a caring regime would also have regularised all the 1,500 unauthorised colonies and provided proper housing to the residents of all the slums and jhuggi jhonpri clusters.

The BJP leader rued that the schemes started by the UPA Government in the name of economic liberalisation have only ruined the trade of Delhi.

Also, he charged, that the police and the land departments that are with the Central Government have not been functioning properly.

"The law and order system has failed in Delhi and even today 60 lakh people in the city do not have a house of their own,'' he said, adding that the high housing interest rates have also made it extremely difficult for people to purchase a house.

Commodities

He said the power and water situation in the Capital was also very bad and the rise in prices of all essential commodities has only added to the woes of the people.
