Maid arrested on charges of drugging employers

Staff Reporter

Police claim to have recovered stolen articles worth 2 lakh

NEW DELHI: A 35-year-old domestic help has been arrested on charges of drugging seven of her employers in Delhi and the satellite towns of Noida and Faridabad and fleeing with their previous belongings. The police claim to have recovered stolen articles worth Rs. 2 lakh from her possession.

The South police recently received three complaints from New Friends Colony, Greater Kailash and Sarita Vihar in which a domestic help, Sudha alias Saheeda, drugged their employers and vanished with valuables. Enquiries revealed that similar cases involving the same domestic help had been reported in Noida and Faridabad.

The suspect, who searched for jobs through newspaper advertisements, security guards and domestic helps, would mainly target elderly people. She would change her mobile phone soon after committing crime to evade detection.

On the basis of the complaints, a Special Staff team led by Inspector Rajender Singh took up the investigation and tracked down Sudha's rented accommodation to Faridabad. However, the landlord informed that she had left for her native place in Chennai. A team led by Inspector Naresh rushed to Chennai and arrested her from her house on May 17. During interrogation, Sudha allegedly confessed to her involvement in seven cases. She purportedly disclosed that she drugged an 86-year-old woman and fled with Rs. 25,000 in cash and some jewellery in August 2005. In April 2006, she targeted a 64-year-old retired colonel and other family members at Sarita Vihar and vanished with some jewellery. Four months later, she allegedly mixed some sedatives in the breakfast and served it to the family members of Chander Mohan at his Faridabad residence and fled with valuables. In February, Sudha allegedly drugged 75-year-old Krishna, a doctor, and her driver at Greater Kailash and vanished with cash, jewellery and his mobile phone. The same month, she targeted an engineer's wife in Noida. On May 9, she allegedly made a colonel, his wife and daughter eat breakfast laced with sedatives and took away cash and jewellery. At her instance, the police have launched a hunt for the stolen property.
