Bidar: The University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad, will set up a Horticulture College in Bidar from this academic year.

The first year course will begin in a rented building and in one year, a campus will be developed, Agriculture Minister Bandeppa Kashempur said here on Sunday. He was addressing a progress review meeting on the opening of the college.

The State Government plans to set up a Karnataka Horticulture University this year. Horticulture colleges and research institutions related to the field will be administered by the university, the Minister said.

He promised to provide government assistance to the university to set up the college.

University vice-chancellor J.H. Kulkarni said the college would need 200 acres of land at least half of which should be irrigated. The college would also need buildings for classrooms, offices, libraries, laboratories and hostels, apart from an auditorium and a sports complex.
