2,064 tonnes of iron ore seized

It was dumped in a farm without permit

HASSAN: Hassan Rural Police on Tuesday seized 2,064 tonnes of iron ore dumped in a farmland 15 km from here, on Hassan-Holenarsipur Road.

The police also registered a case against landowner Manjunath and Abdul Rahim Mossim who has taken the land on lease.

The police also registered a case against the management of Hariyana Steel Factory on a complaint lodged by the Mines and Geology Department which alleged that the factory had stocked iron ore on its premises without permission.

Hassan Deputy Superintendent of Police Rudrappa said here on Wednesday that on May 13, Hassan Rural Police seized two lorries that were transporting iron ore without permits to Hariyana Steel Factory with fake number plates.

Following a direction from the Lokayukta and the Upa Lokayukta, Bangalore, the local Lokayukta took up investigation, he said.

During the course of investigation, it was found that a stock of iron ore was dumped in the farmland of Manjunath. Abdul Rahim Mossim had taken the land on lease, he said.

Enquiries revealed that Mossim did not possess valid permits either to stock or to transport iron ore to Hariyana Steel Factory, he said.

On the complaint by Deputy Director, Mines and Geology Department, Hassan Rural Police on Wednesday registered a case against Hariyana Steel Factory that did not have permit to stock iron ore, he said.

Mr. Rudrappa said they have taken up investigation.
