Plea to launch online tender system in PWD

An assurance was given in the Assembly, says K. Lakshminarayanan

Puducherry: Puducherry Munnetra Congress Legislature party leader K. Lakshminarayanan has called upon the Public Works Department here to implement online issue of tender forms and also to finalise the tenders for various works implemented by the department.

Addressing newsmen here on Wednesday, Mr Lakshminarayanan said there was an assurance on the floor of the Assembly at the recent budget session that online system would be introduced in PWD to ensure transparency. But now the Government had taken a decision that for all works costing up to Rs. 2 crore, the PWD would continue the conventional system of issuing forms.

Mr. Lakshminarayanan wondered why there was a sudden deviation from the assurance given in the Assembly. The Excise department introduced Internet-based auction system several years ago and there was no complaint of disruption of auction.
