Puducherry: The Puducherry branch of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India has exceeded its target during 2006-2007. Against the target of 14,900 new policies, the branch sold 15,620 policies here. The first premium amount realised through this was Rs 6.85 crore against the expected sum of Rs 4.61 crore. Branch Manager S. Sougoumarane told The Hindu here on Wednesday that the Union Territory of Puducherry had distinguished itself by bringing around 60 per cent of insurable people under various insurance schemes. This was next to Neyveli, which had a record of 75 per cent of insurable people being covered. He said that Puducherry had a strength of around 515 agents. The Corporation had decided to introduce the Jeevan Amrit Plan on May 28 throughout the country, he added.
