Offering succour to the disabled

Staff Correspondent

HUBLI: St. Francis Trust, a Hubli-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), has set up "Equip India Centre" at Bandiwad village, near here, to rehabilitate those with disabilities.

The centre will provide hostel and rehabilitation services to disabled persons of the district and act as a platform for community-based rehabilitation services in the nearby villages, Elish Kanti, Executive Director of the trust, has said in a release.

The centre would help the NGO improve its services among the differently abled.

The building had been constructed keeping in mind the requirements of the disabled, he said. The centre offers hostel accommodation for 28 women, a post-operative ward, and a seven-seat dining hall with kitchen.

Mr. Kanti said that during the second phase of construction, hostel accommodation would be provided to 28 male inmates, and also guests and staff. A wheelchair ramp to the first floor would be built, he said

Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate the centre on May 26.
