ADVICE: M.G. Hiremath, Ashok Shettar and K.V.V. Prasad at the The Hindu EducationPlus Pre-Counselling Session in Hubli on Wednesday.
HUBLI: "Choose a professional course of your choice. Do not opt for one just because someone else has chosen it or there is a great demand for it." This was the crux of lectures delivered by the panellists for The Hindu EducationPlus Pre-Counselling Guidance Session organised here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the session, organised for the third year in succession in the twin cities, M.G. Hiremath, Director and Medical Superintendent, Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences and Hospital, said: "If you do not have a passion for the course you have opted for, you will not be able to make a career out of it." Dr. Hiremath explained the various issues related to the medical profession, the financial requirements, the number of years to be dedicated for the course, the need for postgraduation and the income expectations after the completion of the course. Giving details on the other courses and other systems of medicines and paramedical courses, Dr. Hiremath advised the students to consider the other options also. Delivering a talk on Dental Sciences, K.V.V. Prasad, Head of Department of Community Dentistry, SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital, touched upon what to look for in colleges before getting admission to the dental courses. He said a student opting for dental education was assured of good revenue even if he started private practice. Releasing the "Career Guide-07" handbook, Ashok Shettar, Principal of BV Bhoomaraddi College of Engineering and Technology, Hubli, said that outsourcing of engineering services was a fast growing field.
Outsourcing
