Patna: Seven home-guards allegedly sold off their rifles and ammunition to criminals in rural Patna, State's Director General of Police Ashish Ranjan Sinha said on Wednesday.
Extortion demands
The jawans posted at the construction site of a referral hospital at Mokama, about 80 km from the State capital, to provide security to the workers of a contractor receiving extortion demands, sold seven rifles and 20 rounds of ammunition to criminals, Sinha told PTI. He said six of them had been arrested and efforts were on to recover the firearms and cartridges. The home-guards had said that their weapons had been looted by anti-socials, Sinha said, asserting that the firearms and ammunition would be recovered soon. "Initial investigation suggests that the weapons were sold off. It is a serious matter and we will handle this with all seriousness that it deserves," Sinha said wondering "even if we buy their story for a moment, why did not they fire a single round." PTI
