VIJAYAWADA: The Athletic Federation of India (AFI) has appointed city-based SAI athletic coach D.N.V. Vinayak Prasad as throws coach for the junior athletic camp in progress at Jamshedpur until May 31. Athletes training at the camp will take part in the National Youth championship scheduled to be held at Bangalore on June 1 and 2, where the final Indian contingent for the 5th IAAF World Youth athletic championships to be held at Ostrava (Czech Republic) from July 11 to 15, will be announced.
Easy for St. Patrick's
St. Patrick's HS scored a 61-run win against Sports Coaching Foundation in the fourth Paradise Persis Gold Cup cricket tournament in Hyderabad. The scores: St. Patrick's HS 152 for four in 20 overs (Vijay Raj 69) bt SCF 91. Raju's Cricket Academy 203 for three in 20 overs (Akshay 64, Parikshit 52) bt Dayanand CA 134 for four.
Veeraswamy dead
Former State hockey player P. Veeraswamy was killed in a road accident on Tuesday night. He was 80. The former APSRTC employee also represented the then Nizam State Railway in domestic championships besides representing the State between 1950 and '60.
