JOINT WINNERS: Mahela Jayawardane and Shahid Afridi shared the `man of the series' award.

ABU DHABI : Mahela Jayawardene inspired Sri Lanka to a 115-run win over Pakistan in the last match of the Warid Series here on Tuesday.

With Pakistan already having secured the series with wins in the first two matches at Sheikh Zayed stadium, Sri Lanka reached 296 for nine from its 50 overs and then dismissed Pakistan for 181.

Pakistan lost openers Salman Butt for two and Mohammed Hafeez for 34 and never seriously challenged.

Then Dilhara Fernando claimed three wickets including Mohammad Yousuf (5) and debutant Fawad Alam (0) in successive deliveries.

Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik delayed the inevitable with a defiant 79 not out.

He hit four sixes and an equal number of fours, and shared a 54-run stand for the eighth wicket with Rao Iftikhar.

Earlier, Jayawardene scored 83 (81 balls, 7 x 4, 2 x 6) and shared a 124-run stand for the fourth wicket with Chamara Silva, who made 64. Jayawardene drove spinner Abdur Rehman to the cover boundary to reach his 40th ODI half century and second straight in the series. — AP
