Two farmers commit suicide

Bidar: Two farmers committed suicide in Bidar in the last three days.

Bheemsha Basappa Halage, 50, committed suicide by hanging himself in his field at Molkeri village in Humnabad taluk on Monday. He had taken loans totalling Rs. 1.5 lakh from the village Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society and from moneylenders. As his crop failed and he did not have money to repay the loans, he ended his life, the police said. A case has been registered with the Humnabad police station.

In the second incident, the body of Suryakanth Chandrakanth, 45, of Valasang village was found

hanging from a tree at Ambesangvi Cross in Bhalki taluk on Monday. He was a small farmer and had taken a loan of around Rs. 2 lakh. His crops had also failed for three years in a row and moneylenders were reportedly pestering him to clear the loans, the police said. A case has been registered with the Bhalki police station.
