VS remark regretful, says Pinarayi Vijayan

Special Correspondent

Pinarayi Vijayan

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI(M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan has regretted the reported statement of Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan that those who spoke of the existence of a `media syndicate' in Kerala were themselves leaking out information about party deliberations to the media.

Replying to a volley of questions from presspersons at a news conference here on Wednesday, Mr. Vijayan said he did not believe that Mr. Achuthanandan would have made such a remark which would amount to putting him under a cloud of suspicion since he was the person who had spoken most forcefully about the existence of a media syndicate in Kerala.

"A Polit Bureau member should not create a situation where another Polit Bureau member is put under suspicion... That is the minimum decency necessary between comrades," Mr. Vijayan said.

The party had identified one of the persons responsible for leakage of inside information about the CPI(M). Such persons were out of action for sometime, but had once again become active, probably getting encouragement from persons who were their gurus, he added.

The CPI(M) State secretary said when he said that Mr. Acuthanandan was an asset of the party and that nobody should try to hijack him, he only meant to reply to the section of the media that was trying to make it appear that Mr. Achuthanandan was the only great human being in the LDF, that some of the LDF partners were bad and that the CPI(M) was the worst of the lot.

It was the collective decision of the LDF and the constituent parties that got implemented through the Government, he said.

In the case of the Munnar demolitions too, the decisions were taken collectively.
