Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Tourism has kicked off a demand survey in Kovalam, Kumarakom and Wayanad, where responsible tourism practices are being implemented as a pilot project. The survey, being carried out with the help of students of Kerala Institute of Tourism and Travel Studies (KITTS) and other colleges, will be completed in two weeks. It will cover employment potential, timely delivery of raw and processed materials, procurement of raw materials, economic needs, social and environmental factors and so on, a senior tourism official told The Hindu . After listing the needs of stakeholders of the tourism industry, the authorities will discuss them with the local bodies and the Kudumbasree Mission for organising supply of materials. The survey will be held in Thekkady after the destination-specific meeting of a committee set up to formulate a plan of action and implement responsible tourism, he said. The response of stakeholders to the destination-specific meetings held at Kovalam, Kumarakom and Wayanad has surprised tourism authorities. Eighty-two people participated in the meeting in Wayanad, 110 in Kovalam and 126 in Kumarakom. Legislators, officials from various departments, representatives from non-governmental organisations and media persons took part in the discussions.
