BSF constable `beaten up' by Cumbum police

Special Correspondent

ONGOLE: A head constable of the Border Security Force (BSF) was allegedly thrashed by the Cumbum police for complaining against them to his top brass. The injured constable was admitted to the Government hospital here on Wednesday.

Allah Malik was working as head constable in 191 Battalion on the Indo-Bangladesh border. His wife and children live in Cumbum. His eldest boy was roughed up by the neighbours over a petty dispute seven months ago.

Malik had approached Cumbum SI Bhim Naik seeking protection for his family, but not help cam his way. His family was attacked again. Malik brought this to the notice of his battalion Commander Ram Kumar, who wrote a letter to the Superintendent of Police, Prakasam, requesting protection to Malik's family. This had reportedly enraged the local police. When the constable came to Cumbum last week, he was summoned by the local SI to police station on Tuesday night and allegedly thrashed. He was detained despite his pleas. He was let off after he had missed his train to get back to his headquarters.
