BHUBANESWAR: After the Biju Krushak Yojna for the benefit of farmers and Biju KBK Yojna for development of the backward Kalahandi-Bolangir-Koraput region, the Biju Janata Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party Government on Wednesday announced a new scheme for rural electrification naming it after the late Biju Patnaik. The new programme, Biju Gram Jyoti Yojna, was given the final shape at a meeting that was presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here. The scheme will be implemented with funds to be made available from the State Government's own resources. According to an official release issued by the Chief Minister's Office, a total of 10,000 villages will be provided with electricity under the Biju Gram Jyoti Yojna during the 11th Five Year Plan period. A total of Rs. 1,000 crore will be spent on the implementation of the Yojna during the next five years. The villages that are not covered under the Central Government-funded Rajiv Gandhi Gram Vidyutirakan Yojna will be provided electricity under the Biju Gram Jyoti Yajna, according to the release. The responsibility of implementation of the State Government's scheme will be given to District Collectors.
