MUMBAI: A city court on Wednesday directed Haseena Parkar, sister of the wanted gangster Dawood Ibrahim, to surrender before the magistrate's court by noon on Thursday. Additional sessions judge N.D. Deshpande was hearing her application for anticipatory bail. Haseena had appeared before this court on Tuesday evening and the court granted her interim relief with police surveillance till Wednesday. Her lawyers said she was willing to cooperate with the police and ready to attend every session from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Chief Public Prosecutor Rohini Salian argued that the police did not find her after she was declared an accused in a cheating and extortion case and she evaded arrest. Ms. Salian said Haseena was running a gang and hence her custody was required for interrogation. When the prosecution said a magistrate issued a non-bailable warrant in her name after perusing prima facie facts, the judge said Haseena would have to appear before the magistrate concerned, and not in any other court, who would decide on custody or bail. The defence plea was that the police wanted to arrest her only because she was Dawood's sister and that they had not shown any evidence of her alleged offences. Defence counsel Ponda said, "The money went to Shukla builders and the police have not found anything with Haseena. The police want to divert attention to her arrest as there is a case pending against police officers for demanding money in the same case."
