CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday demanded the restoration of zone-wise single window counselling for admission to engineering courses. Criticising the Government's move to hold counselling only in Chennai, H. Raja, State unit vice-president told the media that the earlier practice of holding the counselling sessions in Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchi was of great help to students from different corners of the State. "Making the students and parents from places such as Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli come all the way to Chennai will cause them severe hardship," he said. Referring to the bomb blast in Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad, Mr. Raja said the blast happened despite the Union and State Governments having received intelligence information.
LTTE-Al Qaeda nexus
On the observations of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States Bernard Goonetileke that the LTTE had stolen 130,000 Norwegian passports and sold them to others, including the operatives of the Al Qaeda, Mr. Raja said this showed the nexus between the two. Of late, the activities of the LTTE were on the rise, he added. On the Ramar Sethu controversy, he said the BJP was for an alignment that was between the Kothandaramar temple in Rameswaram and the Ramar Palam. Contending that there existed a three-km-wide distance between the two sites, he said a channel could be formed.
