Head recovered from Yamuna

NEW DELHI: The head of one of the victims of Chandrakant Jha, the alleged serial killer arrested by the West Delhi police on charges of dumping headless bodies outside the Tihar Central Jail premises, has been recovered from the Yamuna at Wazirabad here.

At the instance of Chandrakant, divers were pressed into action on Tuesday to search for the head portion of a body he had disposed of in the Yamuna. Searches for more such body parts are on.

Over 500 jhuggis gutted, three injured

NEW DELHI: Three persons, including a Fire Service Department official, sustained burn injuries in a major fire that broke in the jhuggis at Shakarpur here on Wednesday. Over 500 jhuggis were gutted in the blaze. According to the Fire Service Department, the fire broke out around 2-30 p.m. Two jhuggi dwellers, Kamesh and Arvind Thakur, sustained burn injuries.

Two alleged chain snatchers held

NEW DELHI: Two young women allegedly involved in chain snatching have been arrested at Kalkaji here. The police claim to have recovered two silver and four gold chains.

Accused Shakuntla and Vijeta were caught when they were trying to flee after snatching the chain of a woman at a "Ram Katha" function on May 18.

Arrested for allegedly assaulting neighbour

NEW DELHI: The police have arrested a 19-year-old man for allegedly abducting and criminally assaulting his 12-year-old neighbour at Pilibhit on Thursday.

Police said Rakesh forced the girl to accompany him to Pilibhit after threatening to commit suicide. Both are residents of Kalkatiya Gate slum cluster near Kashmere Gate here.
