NEW DELHI: A Municipal Corporation of Delhi Councillor and her husband have been arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation on charges of demanding and receiving a bribe of Rs. 25,000 from a person constructing a house at Nangloi here. The complainant recently approached the CBI alleging that Veena Saini, the Councillor from East Nangloi, and her husband Naresh Saini, who is a local Congress party leader, had been demanding Rs. 50,000 to allow him to construct his house and use the sewage connection. Acting on the complaint, the CBI sleuths laid a trap and arrested Ms. Saini's husband when he was allegedly receiving the first instalment of Rs. 25,000 from the victim at her office. They then raided her Nangloi residence and arrested her. Following their arrest, the party expelled them for six years.
