NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Wednesday stressed the need for adopting a new training module for the Border Security Force personnel considering the changed threat perception and the era of proxy war. Speaking at the 5th Investiture Ceremony of the BSF at Subroto Park here, the Home Minster said the force had grown progressively and acquired all attributes to counter both external and internal threats. "There is no denying the fact that contribution of this force in upholding the integrity and sovereignty of the country has been significant," he added. He said the United Progressive Alliance Government was aware of the plight of the families of young personnel who suffer casualties during action. He said the Government was considering a favourable pension scheme for the BSF personnel. Earlier, Mr. Patil decorated 23 officers and personnel with Police Medal for Gallantry and 27 with Meritorious Service medals. Two Police Medals for Gallantry were given posthumously. Recalling the contributions of late K. F. Rustamji, the force's founding father, BSF Director General A. K. Mitra said: "It is the result of Rustamji's far-sightedness that the force has successfully fulfilled the expectations of countrymen over the past 42 years."
