HYDERABAD: Police foiled the attempt by Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadat (DJS) to demonstrate at Moghalpura in the old city in protest against the police firing, which left five persons dead last Friday, by arresting 29 of its workers on Wednesday. DJS activists, led by its president Shaik Mahbub Ali, set out from their office in Moghalpura to the spot where police opened fire to perform special prayers for the victims and stage a demonstration. However, taking into consideration the volatile law and order situation in the old city in the wake of the recent blast in Mecca Masjid and the consequent violence, the police did not want to allow any demonstrations. They deployed huge forces at the DJS office and other strategic places in the old city as a precaution.
Tension
As soon as Mr. Ali and his activists stepped out of their office and tried to march, the police rounded them up. Mild tension prevailed as the demonstrators raised slogans against the police and tried to forcibly move ahead. They were arrested and shifted to the Goshamahal police stadium but released on personal bond late in the evening.
