Thiruvananthapuram: The Poojappura police, on Wednesday, arrested a 38-year-old convict serving a life term for murder on the charge of escaping from the Central Prison here. The police identified the accused as Anil Kumar. He was arrested near the Rajiv Gandhi Biotechnology Centre. An official said the convict was in prison dress when he was picked up by the local police. The official alleged that the prison authorities had sent him out to buy provisions. Anil Kumar was produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Suspects held
The Peroorkada police arrested a 22-year-old youth wanted in several cases in the city. The Circle Inspector, Peroorkada, M. Radhakrishnan Nair, identified the accused as Shaji, a resident of Vallakadavu. He was produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. The Peroorkada police arrested a 20-year-old youth on the charge of violating the Arms Act. Mr. Radhakrishnan Nair identified the accused as Shafiq. He was arrested on the charge of threatening a workshop owner with the intention of extorting money.
