NEW DELHI : The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Thursday approved a Rs. 550 crore scheme for the youth to acquire new skills or sharpen the existing ones in various trades and find gainful employment. Both Government and private vocational training providers will be involved in the exercise. Initially, 1,896 Government ITIs and 3,218 ITCs affiliated to the National Council for Vocational Training will be involved. Later, a mechanism will be evolved to have the participation of more private training providers. The scheme also envisages an informal testing and certification of skills of an individual. Union Minister and Cabinet spokesperson Priyaranjan Dasmunsi said 10 lakh persons would benefit over the next five years. About 200 modules of employable skills, as per industry and labour market demands, would be identified and curriculum developed.
