Private school managers threaten stir

Staff Reporter

Draw Education Minister's attention to problems in the sector

KOZHIKODE: The Kerala Private (Aided) School Managers' Association has warned that it will resort to an agitation from July 15 if the Government was reluctant to hold talks on the problems in the sector.

The association submitted a memorandum to Education Minister M.A. Baby listing issues in the sector that needed the immediate attention of the Government. Association State general secretary Nasar Edarikkode and treasurer Kadampuzha Moosa alleged that the Education Minister, even after completing one year in office, was adopting measures that were against aided school management instead of redressing many of the problems faced by it.

They said that over 50,000 students had passed the SSLC examinations with high marks in the Malabar region and were unable to find enough seats for Higher Secondary education in the region. They demanded that the Government seriously consider this issue and sanction more higher secondary schools in the Government and aided sector in the region and also allow more batches. They demanded that Government move to close down uneconomic schools through indirect means be dropped.

The office-bearers alleged that the Government was going to freeze appointments thereby forcing the uneconomic schools to close down on its own. They also demanded that the Government order asking the schools set up before 1959 (Pre-Kerala Education Rules) to close down as part of demolishing its buildings be reviewed.
